Overview

Impacted teeth are teeth that fail to emerge normally in the mouth due to various reasons such as lack of space or developmental abnormalities. This condition is common in the third molar teeth, also known as wisdom teeth, but it can also occur with other teeth. Impacted teeth can result in discomfort, pain, and infection if left untreated. Oral implants are an effective solution for tooth replacement that involves surgically placing a titanium post into the jawbone. The post will integrate with the bone over time, creating a stable foundation for an artificial tooth, also known as a crown, to be attached. This procedure can be beneficial for patients with missing teeth, damaged teeth, or those who desire a permanent solution. Dentistry plays a crucial role in the management of impacted teeth and the placement and maintenance of oral implants. Dental professionals such as oral surgeons and periodontists may perform impacted teeth extractions, while prosthodontists and general dentists may handle the installation and monitoring of dental implants. The importance of regular dental check-ups cannot be overstated, as they aid in the early detection and management of impacted teeth and dental implant complications. Proper oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing regularly, and avoiding hard or chewy foods, can also help prevent tooth impaction and ensure the longevity of dental implants. In conclusion, impacted teeth and oral implants are essential topics in dentistry that require attention and care from patients and dental professionals alike. By understanding these concepts and their significance, individuals can make informed decisions and maintain optimal oral health.
