Overview

Natural history of disease is the study of the natural progression of symptoms, progression and outcome of a disease in a person or population, from its onset through diagnosis, treatment, and eventual resolution or death. It is important to understand the natural history of a disease in order to develop treatments, therapies and preventive measures. Furthermore, it allows for better strategic decision making for public health policy, in order to prevent and control certain Diseases. Natural history of disease is a key factor in drug development and the development of personalized treatment plans. By understanding the natural history of a disease, doctors are able to make suitable decisions and provide the best possible care for each individual.
