Overview
Endothelial cells are specialized cells that form the inner lining of blood vessels and lymphatic vessels throughout the body, serving as a critical interface between circulating blood and surrounding tissues. Research published in this journal examines endothelial cells across multiple cardiovascular and systemic contexts, including their role in hypertension, heart failure, and stroke. Studies have investigated endothelial function assessment using peripheral arterial tonometry technology in stroke subtypes, explored cardiorenal signaling pathways where endothelial dysfunction contributes to heart failure progression, and examined microRNAs as potential diagnostic and therapeutic tools in hypertension and ischemic heart disease through their effects on endothelial regulation. Additional work has addressed endothelial injury mechanisms, including oxidative stress and telomere attrition related to biological aging, toxicity from iodinated radiographic contrast agents in clinical practice, and structural changes induced by zinc oxide nanoparticles. Research has also explored endothelial-related molecular markers such as vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 expression in colorectal cancer and neuropilin-1 in leukemogenesis, as well as vascular pathologies including papillary endothelial hyperplasia. This body of work underscores the central importance of endothelial cell health in cardiovascular disease, systemic inflammation, and therapeutic development.
