Overview

Veterinary medicine is the branch of medical science devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, and disorders in animals, spanning companion, food-producing, exotic, and aquatic species. It integrates anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, surgery, and anesthesiology, and extends to public health through zoonosis surveillance, food safety, and antimicrobial stewardship. Core domains include clinical diagnostics and imaging, anesthesia and surgical technique, oncology, infectious and parasitic disease, dermatology, and reproductive and herd health management. Research methods range from clinical trials and pilot studies through pathological and microbiological investigation to evaluation of novel therapeutics and surgical approaches. Work in this area examines neoplastic involvement of bone marrow in canine mammary tumors, comparative cardiorespiratory parameters in laparoscopic versus open surgical procedures in dogs, novel anesthetic agents in cats, osteosarcoma and bone-defect healing models, identification and antifungal susceptibility of dermatophytes in cats and dogs, multidrug-resistant bacterial infections including MRSA-associated pyoderma, carbapenem resistance in avian pathogenic Escherichia coli, and nutraceutical management of flea-allergy dermatitis. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research across veterinary clinical practice, surgery, infectious disease, and animal health, including topics relevant to aquatic and food-producing species, connecting diagnostic and therapeutic advances to animal welfare and the broader concerns of comparative and one-health medicine.
