Septic Shock

Septic shock is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by the body's overactive response to infection. In septic shock, the immune system releases a surge of chemicals that cause widespread inflammation. This leads to reduced blood pressure, leading to inadequate blood flow to the organs and impaired oxygen delivery. Without prompt and appropriate treatment, septic shock can cause serious complications, including organ failure and death. Septic shock is a medical emergency and can be treated with antibiotics, fluids and other supportive therapies. Early recognition and rapid treatment are essential in reducing the risk of severe complications, disability or death.
