Overview
Surgical resection is the operative removal of diseased or abnormal tissue, an organ, or part of an organ from the body. It is a central treatment for many conditions, especially solid tumors, where the goal is to remove the lesion together with an appropriate margin of surrounding tissue to reduce the chance of recurrence. The extent of resection depends on the disease, its location, and how it relates to nearby structures, and the procedure is often combined with imaging, pathology, and additional therapies to plan and confirm complete removal. Research collected on this journal reflects the diverse settings in which resection is applied. Work includes studies on lung cancer with isolated adrenal metastases, the definition of target volumes for the treatment of atypical meningiomas using multimodal imaging, the surgical management of cutaneous tumors such as eccrine porocarcinoma, and reports on rare neoplasms requiring careful operative planning. Together these contributions illustrate how resection is selected, planned, and evaluated across different tumors and tissues. As a core operative strategy, surgical resection lies within the scope of surgical techniques research. The page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to the surgical removal of tumors and diseased tissue.
