Overview

Assessment and diagnosis of trauma is the process of evaluating and determining the nature, extent and cause of physical, emotional, or psychological harm caused by an individual’s experience of a traumatic event. It is an important aspect of healthcare, ensuring the proper care and treatment of people who have experienced trauma, and is also essential for understanding the long-term effects of trauma on the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of individuals. Different techniques, such as psychological tests and self-reporting, can be used to assess and diagnose trauma; these techniques can help identify potential risk factors and develop strategies for prevention. Trauma assessment and diagnosis can be used to provide the necessary support and treatment for those experiencing trauma, and to improve the quality of life of individuals affected by traumatic experiences.
