Overview

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a chronic condition in which the force of blood against the walls of the arteries is persistently elevated. It is influenced by factors including age, lifestyle, diet, and genetics, and when left uncontrolled it can damage blood vessels and organs and raise the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and other complications. Because it often produces no symptoms, hypertension is frequently detected only through measurement, making screening, awareness, and consistent management central to reducing its long-term harm. Research published by this journal examines hypertension across populations and clinical settings. Studies report on the prevalence, awareness, and treatment of hypertension in Jiangxi Province, China, healthy lifestyle behaviors and hypertension among older adults in the United States, and the prevalence of hypertension among adolescents in Nigeria. Other work investigates uncontrolled blood pressure in Zimbabwe, integrated medical services for hypertension in Shanghai, dipper and non-dipper patterns in chronic kidney disease, genetic associations with hypertension, microRNAs as potential diagnostic and therapeutic tools, and experimental models of renovascular hypertension. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to hypertension, supporting readers seeking primary literature on its epidemiology, mechanisms, and management.
