Mutation

Mutation is a process that results in a permanent change in the genetic material of a living organism. It is significant because it is the source of genetic diversity, and is responsible for the evolution of life on Earth. Mutations are also utilized in various applications in fields such as medical research and biotechnology. For example, researchers use mutation to study how genetic mutations lead to diseases, and to produce useful proteins for medical treatments. Additionally, engineers use mutation to create new plants and animals with specific desired characteristics, such as disease-resistance or higher yields of food production. Mutation is thus a vital process that helps to shape the modern world.
