Data source: Editor Review database
Proposed board corrections are reviewed in the central Editor Review workflow before publication.
Editorial process
One qualified editor oversees each manuscript, selects appropriate reviewers when external review is required, and makes a recommendation under the journal’s published policies.
Each manuscript is the responsibility of one qualified editor, who oversees its review and formulates the recommendation that follows it. The board does not assess submissions collectively.
Single-blind peer review, with double-blind review available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally assessed by two to three independent reviewers selected for disciplinary expertise and screened for conflicts before they are invited.
Editors declare conflicts for each assignment — collaborators, competitors and reviewers at the author’s own institution — and an editor holding one is replaced by another qualified editor.
Appeals are reviewed by an editor who took no part in the original decision. Complaints are considered under the journal’s published procedures and applicable publication-ethics guidance.
Leadership
JBBS is led by one Editor-in-Chief, supported by the Editorial Board.

Recorded subjects
The table groups terms stored in public board records across four areas in the JBBS archive; it does not independently verify expertise. The broader journal scope is described in Aims and Scope.
Editors are counted once per domain matched by their recorded research-interest terms, so the column does not sum to the board total.
| Published domain | Editors | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Microbial and environmental biotechnology | 0 | No matching research interest is recorded. |
| Natural-product and plant biotechnology | 0 | No matching research interest is recorded. |
| Biomaterials and tissue engineering | 0 | No matching research interest is recorded. |
| Molecular diagnostics and gene expression | 0 | No matching research interest is recorded. |
Manuscripts are assigned to a qualified handling editor, with independent specialists invited for external review when appropriate, as Peer review sets out.
Accountability
The following responsibilities summarize the journal’s published editorial policies.
Reviewers are selected for disciplinary expertise, screened for conflicts and verified against ORCID. Collaborators, direct competitors and reviewers at the author’s own institution are avoided, and a justified author exclusion is honoured.
Peer reviewEditors declare a conflict for each assignment they accept. Where one exists an alternative editor is assigned, and the conflict statement appears in the published article.
Editorial policiesAn editor must recuse themselves from any manuscript in which a conflict exists, and editorial responsibility passes to another qualified editor.
Editorial policiesA manuscript authored by a board member is handled by another qualified editor. The author takes no part in its assessment or its decision.
Editorial policiesEditorial decisions are based on scope, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality and research integrity. Article processing charges, memberships and sponsorships do not influence editorial decisions.
Editorial policiesAppeals are submitted to the editorial office and reviewed by an editor not involved in the original decision. Complaints are considered under the journal’s published procedures and applicable publication-ethics guidance.
Editorial policiesEvery submission is screened with iThenticate. Concerns about duplicated panels, splices or identical noise in figures are raised confidentially with the editor, and allegations of misconduct follow the COPE flowcharts.
Research and publication ethicsA publisher error is corrected by erratum and an author error by corrigendum. Where a concern is unresolved an expression of concern is issued, and a finding that invalidates the work leads to retraction.
Editorial policiesEditors treat submissions and reviewer identities as confidential and never use unpublished material from a manuscript without the author’s consent.
For editorsAppointments are reviewed and renewed annually by the editorial office.
For editorsBoard names, appointments, affiliations and ORCID iDs are published from approved database fields. Corrections may be sent to the editorial office for review.
Manuscripts are assigned to a handling editor with relevant expertise. Authors should review the journal’s inclusion and exclusion criteria before submitting.
