Editorial Policies
JHOR applies editorial policies intended to support fair review, ethical research, transparent reporting, and correction of the scholarly record.

Peer review and editorial independence
Submissions are assessed for scope, scholarly relevance, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and reporting clarity.

- External assessment
- Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
- Independence
- Payment status, services, memberships, and editorial or reviewer roles do not affect review or editorial decisions.
Conflicts and recusal
Editors and reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts. An independent editor handles an editor’s own submission.

Authorship and use of AI
All listed authors must meet accepted authorship criteria and approve the submitted work. AI tools cannot be authors. Material AI use must be disclosed, and authors remain accountable for accuracy, originality, citations, and confidentiality.
Human and animal research
Human studies require appropriate ethics approval and informed consent where applicable. Animal research requires institutional approval and reporting consistent with relevant welfare standards.
Clinical trials and reporting
Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript. Authors should use the reporting guideline appropriate to the study design.
Originality and duplicate submission
Manuscripts must be original and must not be under simultaneous consideration elsewhere. Suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, or inappropriate image manipulation may be investigated.
Competing interests and funding
Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose relationships that could reasonably be perceived to influence the work. Funding sources and the funder’s role must be stated.
Data and reproducibility
Every research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. For article types that do not generate or analyze data, authors may state that data availability is not applicable. Ethical or legal restrictions must be explained.
Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions
Material errors or integrity concerns are assessed in relation to the published record. Appropriate outcomes may include a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, with the reason stated transparently.
Withdrawal
Authors should review the withdrawal policy, including the three-day period and the charge that applies after that period. Formal withdrawal confirmation is required before submission elsewhere.
Complaints and appeals
Authors may request reconsideration with a focused, evidence-based explanation. Where practicable, someone not directly responsible for the contested decision reviews the complaint or appeal.
Copyright and self-archiving
Authors retain copyright and articles are published under CC BY 4.0. The published version may be shared or deposited with attribution, subject to the license terms.
