A special issue gathers work on one question that is moving quickly, so that studies which answer each other can be read together. The journal considers proposals from researchers with standing in the area.
Propose a collection
What a proposal should contain
International Journal of Inflammation Research welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in inflammation research. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the requirements below and contact the editorial office.
The question
A short statement of the problem the collection addresses and why gathering the work together serves readers better than publishing it separately. It should sit inside the journal's Aims & Scope; a collection focuses the remit rather than extending it.
The guest editors
Who would handle the collection, their relevant publications, and their institutional affiliations. Guest editors are subject to the same conflict-of-interest rules as the journal's own editors.
The shape
An indication of how many contributions are envisaged, the kinds of studies expected, and a realistic period over which the collection would be assembled.

Safeguards that apply throughout
Review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts. A manuscript submitted to a collection is assessed on the same terms as any other submission.
Decisions
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
Editorial decisions remain independent of fees, memberships, roles and paid services. Inclusion in a collection is not an undertaking to publish.
Guest editors' own work
A guest editor who submits to their own collection takes no part in the assessment of that manuscript; it is handled independently by the journal's editors.
Terms
Articles in a collection are published open access under CC BY 4.0 on the terms set out on the Article Processing Charges page.
Proposals and questions go to the editorial office at [email protected]. Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year and do not depend on a collection being open.
