What the board is accountable for
Editors screen submissions for scope and minimum requirements, select reviewers whose expertise covers both the subject and the setting, weigh the reviews and take the decision. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial or reviewer roles.
Editors declare their interests and recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions; those manuscripts are handled independently. The framework they work to is set out on the For Editors page.
