Before you begin

Prepare a complete, relevant manuscript

Check the journal remit and the applicable author guidance before using a production route. This preparation page does not replace the instructions or journal policies.

  1. Check manuscript fit

    Confirm that the work has a substantive connection to psychotherapy practice or research. The current author guidance identifies Original Research, Review Articles, Case Reports and Clinical Notes.

  2. Prepare the manuscript record

    Use the author instructions for the manuscript structure, title page, structured abstract, keywords, author details, references, tables, figures and supplements where applicable.

  3. Review applicable declarations

    Review authorship, funding, competing interests, ethics and consent, data access, registration and reporting guidance before entering the production workflow.

What to have ready

The items below are preparation guidance drawn from the current IJPR author and policy pages. They are not represented as fields on this page.

Manuscript and author details

  • Title page with author names, affiliations and corresponding-author information.
  • Structured abstract and 3–6 keywords.
  • Word count, references, tables, figures and supplementary material where applicable.
  • Authorship contributions and final-author approval.

Research transparency

  • Funding and competing-interest information.
  • Applicable reporting guidance for the study design.
  • Trial registration information for interventional psychotherapy studies, where applicable.
  • Data-availability or access-restriction information where applicable.

Human participants and clinical material

  • Ethics-review information or a documented basis where review was not required.
  • Consent procedures for research involving human participants.
  • Careful de-identification of clinical or participant material.
  • Written permission for potentially identifiable client information, where applicable.

Fees and editorial assessment

The current standard APC is USD 1,499 per accepted article. Current IJPR material states that submission and peer review are free and that payment is requested after formal acceptance. Editorial assessment is independent of fees.

Psychotherapy research

Protect sensitive participant and clinical information

Research consent is not the same as permission to publish identifiable material. Do not put client, patient or participant information into an unverified intake route.

Case material, transcripts, recordings and quotations
Before production submission, review the author instructions and editorial policies for confidentiality, de-identification and permission expectations. This page does not request or accept therapy-session notes, recordings, direct quotations, images or other identifiable material.
Vulnerable participants and dual relationships
Work involving minors, vulnerable participants or therapist–researcher relationships needs careful ethical consideration. Institutional ethics review does not replace professional, legal or consent obligations.
AI-assisted tools and sensitive material
IJPR does not currently publish a verified AI-use policy for this workflow. Do not upload confidential manuscript or participant material to an AI tool merely to prepare a submission; any journal-specific disclosure rule requires policy-owner approval.
