Purpose

What IJPR is, and why it exists

The International Journal of Psychotherapy Practice and Research gives psychotherapists, clinical researchers and educators a rigorous, openly accessible venue for work that improves clinical understanding and care. Its scholarship spans the full arc of psychotherapy — from the relationships and mechanisms that make therapy work, to the studies, reviews and reflective analyses that test and refine practice.

As an open-access journal, every article IJPR publishes is free to read worldwide the day it appears and carries a permanent Crossref DOI, so findings reach the clinicians and researchers who can use them without a paywall.

IJPR welcomes both empirical studies and carefully argued conceptual and review work, and holds every submission to the same standards: transparent methods, ethical conduct, and clear relevance to psychotherapy practice or research.

Editorial process

How manuscripts are reviewed and decided

IJPR is directed by an international editorial board, and every decision is made by a subject editor in the relevant field.

Named subject editors
Every manuscript is handled by an editor working in the relevant field of psychotherapy or clinical psychology.
Single-blind (double-blind on request)
Every submission is assessed by expert peer reviewers working in the relevant field.
Decisions on merit
Acceptance rests on methodological rigour, ethical conduct and clinical relevance, not on author standing.
Constructive review
Reviewer feedback is intended to strengthen the work and clarify its contribution.
Declared interests
Editors and reviewers disclose competing interests and recuse themselves where a conflict exists.

Research integrity & ethics

Ethical, transparent, and safe for the people behind the research

Because psychotherapy research involves real patients and clinical material, IJPR treats integrity, consent and privacy as core editorial requirements.

Research integrity
Submissions are screened for plagiarism; methods and data are expected to be reported transparently and honestly.
Publication ethics
The journal follows widely accepted publication-ethics principles and addresses concerns, corrections and retractions openly.
Informed consent & privacy
Clinical and case material is published only with appropriate consent and de-identification to protect patient privacy.
Patient safety
Clinical content is presented so that it informs practice responsibly, without risk to the people described.
Competing interests & funding
Authors declare funding sources and any conflicts of interest relevant to their work.
Inclusivity & respectful language
The journal expects person-centred, non-stigmatising language across all published work.

Full detail is set out in the editorial policies.

Open access & permanence

Free to read, owned by authors, kept findable

Every IJPR article is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) licence, and authors retain copyright of their work. There is no charge to submit and no charge to be reviewed — a single article processing charge of US$1,499 applies only if a manuscript is accepted, and fee assistance is considered case by case. See the full APC policy →

Each article receives a permanent Crossref DOI and is discoverable through Google Scholar, with a public record in the ISSN Portal and OpenAlex. A digital-preservation agreement with Portico is in place, and content ingestion is in progress. Read the preservation policy →

Published by Open Access Pub

IJPR is published by Open Access Pub, an open-access scholarly publisher. Open Access Pub provides the journal's publishing infrastructure — hosting, DOI registration through Crossref, long-term preservation and discovery — while responsibility for editorial decisions rests with the journal's own editors and reviewers.

This separation keeps scholarly judgement independent of publishing operations: the publisher enables the journal to run reliably and openly; the editorial board decides what IJPR publishes.
