Data Archiving Permissions
JAPST promotes responsible data sharing to improve transparency, reproducibility, and reuse.
Our data sharing approach
JAPST encourages authors to archive data and code in trusted repositories so results can be validated and extended. We recognize that pharmaceutical research may include sensitive clinical, proprietary, or regulatory information, and we support appropriate access controls when needed.
Every submission must include a data availability statement describing where data can be accessed or explaining why access is restricted.
Why archiving matters
Archived data improve reproducibility, allow secondary analysis, and increase citation potential. For pharmaceutical research, data sharing can accelerate validation, regulatory assessment, and clinical translation when handled responsibly.
We encourage authors to archive datasets, code, protocols, and supplementary materials that support the main findings. It also helps meet regulatory and grant expectations.

Recommended repositories
Authors should use reputable repositories that provide persistent identifiers and long term access. Options may include discipline specific repositories, institutional repositories, or general purpose platforms that accept datasets, code, or protocols.
Include repository links, accession IDs, and licensing details in your data availability statement. If an embargo is required for patents or regulatory review, specify the embargo period and expected release date. General purpose repositories that provide DOIs, versioning, and access controls are acceptable when a discipline specific option is not available. Choose stable platforms when feasible.
Data availability statement examples
- "Data are available in an institutional repository under accession ID 2024-PT-102."
- "De-identified clinical data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request and ethics approval."
- "Code used for analysis is available in a public repository with DOI reference."
Funder and institutional compliance
Many funding agencies require data sharing or public deposit. JAPST supports these mandates by accepting repository links and structured data statements in the published article.
If your institution has specific archiving requirements, include those details in your submission so the editorial team can confirm compliance.
Restrictions and sensitive data
We understand that patient privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory requirements may restrict open sharing. In these cases, describe the reason for restriction and provide a path for controlled access when possible.
If data cannot be shared, include a statement confirming that the results can be validated through the methods described in the manuscript. For clinical datasets, describe de identification procedures and any access committees involved. When possible, provide summary tables or synthetic data to support reproducibility.
Permissions and licensing
Authors retain copyright to their data and choose appropriate data licenses. When possible, use licenses that support reuse with proper attribution.
If third party data are used, confirm that permissions are in place for archiving and sharing. Data licenses should align with the intended level of reuse and any regulatory constraints. Use permissive licenses when possible.
